National Biodiesel Board (NBB) chairman Kent Engelbrecht of ADM remembers 1993 very well.
“25 years ago, I was up to my neck in river water in the Great Flood of ’93,” said Engelbrecht, who at the time was running a couple of grain terminals on the Mississippi River for ADM. “Farmers had massive losses, roads, interstates, bridges, were closed for weeks – we simply could not control our own destiny on the farm.”
“But, 1993 also brought us soy diesel and farmers began to see that they could have control over their own destiny,” he added.
